Aleesa

I grew up with a lot of islamic friends and i loved attending iftars parties at their houses. Aleesa is one of my favorite dishes , a very healthy and nutritious one. This recipe was given to me by a friend's grand mother.

INGREDIENTS:

  • skinned whole wheat- 1 CUP
  • onion- 1
  • garlic- 10 cloves
  • ghee -1 tbsp (optional)
  • salt to taste
  • chicken whole leg- 1
  • water 4 to 5 cups
  • dry fruits to garnish

Instructions:

  • Soak the wheat in warm water for 15-20 minutes.
  • In a pressure cooker boil water and add wheat ,along with sliced onion , garlic, ghee, salt and chicken leg.
  • After the first whistle, keep the pressure cooker on low flame for half an hour.
  • Turn off the pressure cooker and keep it aside until all the pressure leaves the cooker.
  • Now, open the lid and remove bone from chicken and mash everything together to a course consistency.
  • In a other pan, heat ghee and fry the dry fruits in it. Typically used dry fruits are raisins, almonds, cashew nuts and pistachios. This is used to garnish the dish.
  • If you do not wish to use ghee, you may add toasted dry fruits instead.
